Medication Management

Personalized Care for Mental Wellness

At Valiant Mental Health, we understand that mental health is influenced by a range of factors: the mind, body, spirit, emotions, and environment. These interconnected aspects of our being shape how we experience the world, which is why we take a holistic approach to medication management. Our dedicated clinical team works with each individual to develop a unique and thoughtful plan that addresses not only mental health concerns but, also life’s stresses, obstacles, and pathways to growth and healing.

What is Medication Management?

Our board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) offers personalized, comprehensive mental health care to children (ages 8+), teens, and adults. The process begins with an in-depth evaluation of your current and past mental health, medical conditions, life stressors, and other factors that could influence your well-being. This thorough assessment is essential for developing an accurate diagnosis and tailored treatment plan.

Once a diagnosis is made, our provider will discuss the best treatment options with you, which may include medication, therapy, or other non-medication approaches. If medication is deemed necessary, your provider will prescribe and manage the medication, working closely with your other healthcare providers—including your therapist or primary care physician (with your consent). Regular follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor your progress, discuss how medications are working, manage side effects, and determine when discontinuation may be appropriate.

  • Depression: Persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and loss of interest.
  • Anxiety Disorders: Excessive worry, nervousness, and fear that interferes with daily activities.
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): Emotional distress triggered by past traumatic events.
  • Bipolar Disorder: Extreme mood swings, including emotional highs (mania) and lows (depression).

  • Agoraphobia: Fear of situations where escape might be difficult or help unavailable, often leading to avoidance of certain places or activities.
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): Persistent, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors (compulsions).
  • Panic Disorder: Recurrent, unexpected panic attacks and the fear of having more.
  • Social Anxiety: Intense fear of social situations that can impair relationships and work life.
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): A developmental disorder that affects communication, social interactions, and behavior.

Why Medication Management?

Medication can be a vital part of a comprehensive treatment plan, especially when combined with therapy and lifestyle adjustments. Psychiatric medications can help to:

  • Stabilize mood
  • Improve focus and attention
  • Manage symptoms of anxiety and depression
  • Support emotional regulation
  • Reduce intrusive thoughts and behaviors

However, medication alone is not a “one-size-fits-all” solution. We carefully monitor each patient’s response to medications and adjust dosages as needed to ensure the best outcomes while minimizing potential side effects.
