Telepsychiatry & Psychiatric Medication Management Across Arizona
Arizona has about one psychiatrist for every 10,739 residents, well below the national average of roughly one per 8,347. Every county in the state is a federally designated mental health shortage area, and Arizona currently meets only about 40% of its psychiatric workforce need — closing that gap would take somewhere between 142 and 223 additional full-time psychiatrists statewide.
Valiant Mental Health provides licensed telepsychiatry and psychiatric medication management across Arizona by secure video, so getting care doesn’t depend on finding an opening at one of the state’s few in-network offices.

Why Telepsychiatry Works So Well in Arizona
Nearly 97% of Arizona’s psychiatrists practice in urban areas — slightly higher than the state’s 92% urban population share — which means the shortage isn’t only a rural problem. It shows up as long waits in Phoenix, Tucson, Mesa, and Chandler too, not just in the state’s smaller towns.
A secure video visit gets you the same evaluation, medication management, and follow-up care you’d get in an office, without needing to track down and drive to one of the limited in-network practices near you.
Conditions We Treat
We provide psychiatric medication management for the conditions we see most often in Arizona adults and adolescents:
- Depression & Mood Disorders
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder
- Panic Disorder
- ADHD
- Bipolar Disorder
- PTSD
- OCD
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Agoraphobia & Specific Phobias
- Social Anxiety
- Adjustment disorders and life stress
Many patients pair medication management with talk therapy — see our Counseling & Therapy page if that’s part of what you’re looking for.
What a Telepsychiatry Visit Actually Looks Like
- You request an appointment online. No referral needed.
- Your first visit is a full evaluation — your history, symptoms, and goals, done by secure video from wherever you are.
- If medication is appropriate, your provider walks through the options with you and sends the prescription electronically to your Arizona pharmacy.
- You return for regular follow-ups to check how things are working and adjust as needed — the same way you would in person.
Arizona Cities We Serve
We have dedicated pages for the communities where we see the most patients, each shaped by what’s actually different about mental health care there:
- Phoenix — where extreme summer heat is a documented mental health stressor on top of the usual access gaps.
- Mesa — a fast-growing city with one of the largest retiree populations in the country alongside young families.
- Tucson — home to the University of Arizona’s more than 54,000 students, plus the wider Pima County community.
- Chandler — a tech and semiconductor hub built around Intel’s Ocotillo campus, with a fast-paced professional and family population.
If you’re elsewhere in Arizona, our licensure covers the whole state — reach out and we’ll confirm availability.
Meet Your Provider
Care is provided by Randy Goleman, MSN, APRN, PMHNP, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with experience across military, acute behavioral health, and residential treatment settings, in addition to private practice. Read more about his background.
Insurance & Getting Started
Many private insurance plans cover telepsychiatry in Arizona — coverage varies, so we recommend verifying your specific benefits before your first visit. Cash-pay pricing is also available if you’d rather skip insurance altogether. See current plans and cash-pay rates.
Local Crisis & Behavioral Health Resources
Telepsychiatry is not a crisis service. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please use one of these resources or call 911:
- Arizona Crisis Line (24/7): 1-844-534-4673, or dial 988
- Arizona Department of Health Services – Behavioral Health
- NAMI Arizona
- Crisis Response Network (Maricopa County)
Frequently Asked Questions About Telepsychiatry in Arizona
Do I need to live in Phoenix, Tucson, Mesa, or Chandler to use this service?
No. As long as you’re physically located in Arizona during your appointment and have a private space with a reliable internet connection, you can be seen anywhere in the state.
Is telepsychiatry really as effective as an in-person appointment?
Yes. Research consistently shows telepsychiatry is equally effective for evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management for most psychiatric conditions.
Can psychiatric medications be prescribed through telehealth in Arizona?
Most psychiatric medications can be prescribed via telepsychiatry following state and federal guidelines. There are some additional restrictions around controlled substances, which your provider will review with you directly.
Given the provider shortage, is telepsychiatry actually faster than a local clinic?
Often, yes. Because you aren’t limited to the small number of psychiatric offices within driving distance, telepsychiatry frequently opens up availability that a local waitlist can’t.

Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re glad you had a positive experience. While we can’t always accommodate same-day appointments, we always do our best to get patients scheduled as quickly as possible. We appreciate your recommendation!Posted on Google A LTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I've been seeing Randy for probably a year now. His style of counseling is right up my alley: No bs and no coddling. I can speak directly and openly with no judgement (and sometimes I even get a laugh out of him.) Anyone who thinks he's dismissive or claims he said he can't help them obviously needs to do some introspection. If he said he can't help, I guarantee the entire statement was "I can't help you if you're unwilling to help yourself." Therapy is about wanting to be there and wanting to improve mental health. Anyone unwilling to face the ugly in their lives won't be successful in therapy, *regardless* of the therapist.

Randy was very patient, addressing all my concerns, and he listens extremely well, clarifying misunderstandings instead of jumping to conclusions. He was also very clear about medications and the negative and positive side effects of each type, and how they interact with my medical history personally. He is a *very* good psychiatrist. Most of all, I appreciate the flexibility he offers in scheduling appointments at nighttimeor daytime, weekdays or weekends, and in person or online. This is incredibly helpful for shift work and unpredictable schedules. I have had bad experiences with psychiatrists in the past, and I recommend him as one of the best options around.
